Disinfection Procedures
For Tools and Equipment (this includes combs, brushes, rollers, picks, styling tools, scissors, tweezers, nail clippers, and multi-use abrasive nail files) :
*Must be done after each use and before starting another client!
1. Clean tools and remove all visible matter and residue.
2. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean towel.
3. Completely immerse implements in a properly mixed disinfecting solution for 10 minutes or per manufacturer's directions.
4. Remove implements with tongs, basket, or gloves to avoid skin contact.
5. Store disinfected implements in a clean container and in a sanitary manner between uses.
For Towels, Linens, and Capes:
Clean towels and linens must be used for each client. Soiled towels and linens must be separate from clean linens and towels. Clean towels should be stored in a closed cabinet. Disposable neck strips or towels should be used as a barrier for capes. If a cape touches the skin, do not use it again until it is washed.
For Electrical Equipment:
Equipment such as clippers, electrotherapy tools, and nail drills should be cleaned and disinfected using a regulatory oversight agency approved disinfectant designed for use on such devices. Always follow the procedures recommended by the disinfectant product manufacturer.

For Work Surfaces:
All work surfaces must be cleaned before beginning each client. Clean with the proper disinfectant and a disposable towel.
